Family: Passifloraceae

View Video

Description

Banana Passionflower, also known in Hawaii as Banana Poka is a climbing semi-woody vine that can entangle large stands of forest. It has a pink flowers and three lobed leaves with yellow fruits. On the islands of Hawaii, it is a major problem on Hawaii and Kauai with some small patches on the islands of Maui and Oahu.

Interesting facts

The name 'banana poka' is given to the plant because of a) the resemblance of the yellow fruits to bananas, and b) from 'poka,' the Hawaiian word with the connotation "to climb."
